Arriving at a Muay Thai camp for the first time can feel intimidating. It should not. Here is what your first week at Kiatphontip really looks like.
Day one
You will be welcomed, shown around, and eased in gently. The trainers will watch how you move and start with the fundamentals — stance, the basic strikes, and how to hold and hit the pads. Nobody expects you to be good yet.
Settling into the rhythm
Most people train once a day for the first few days while their body adjusts, then build up to two sessions. Expect sore shins and tired legs early on — it passes. Hydrate, and rest on Sunday.
What to pack
- Shorts and t-shirts you can sweat in (lots — it is hot)
- A reusable water bottle
- Flip-flops/sandals for around the camp
- Sun cream and any personal medication
- An open mind and patience with yourself
You do not need to buy gear before you arrive — gloves and wraps are available to borrow, and Thai gear is cheap and superb to buy locally.
The most important thing
Turn up, train hard, and be friendly. The family atmosphere is what people remember most — within a few days you will know everyone on the mats.
